The mission of the Kentucky Association for School Social Work is to promote the advancement of school social work practice through advocacy, professional development, networking and the distribution of information to our members.
School Social Work is a specialized area of practice within the broad field of the social work profession.
School Social Workers bring unique professional knowledge, skills and perspective to the school system and the student services team.
School Social Workers enhance the academic mission by providing services which strengthen home/school/community partnerships.
School Social Workers actively address barriers within the child, home, school, and community that interfere with student achievement.
School Social Workers serve as catalysts to bring people together and to create an environment that is conducive to effective problem solving.
School Social Work practice includes: assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, consultation, program development, and coordination of school and community services.

SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK AS A CAREER
The history of school social work can be traced to the early 1900’s. The best school social work services are provided by School Social Workers employed by local education agencies. Those agencies include local school districts, regional school agencies and special education agencies.
